I interviewed her and asked her to share what she learned, including how she changed her diet to achieve success. I hope you are encouraged and motivated to follow in his footsteps!
“I had never measured food before and it was a revelation to say the least. You don't realize how much you're eating until you measure and weigh your food!"
1. What has stopped you from successfully losing weight in the past?
I have NEVER made weight loss a lifestyle change. I was losing weight for an event, vacation, to fit a specific outfit, etc. It was always a quick fix, I never incorporated it into my life, family or routine... HUGE DIFFERENCE when you do. It has to be for life 🙂
2. What were the biggest misconceptions you had before about losing weight?
The biggest misconception I had was that if you don't eat enough, your body will store fat and therefore you won't lose weight!
3. What benefits do you most enjoy being in shape?
Ah, there are MANY benefits to being in shape. The most important thing is being able to be an active part of my family, being a great example for my children, self-confidence and pride.
4. What was your first mini win on your weight loss journey?
My first mini triumph without scales was being able to cross my legs... You can't do that being overweight, it's been MANY YEARS!!
5. What was your biggest difficulty on this trip? What was the easiest part?
My biggest struggle was realizing that putting myself first, making myself a priority, is not selfish. The easy part... Hmm, let me get back to that.
6. What did you learn about healthy food and diets?
I learned that the key to healthy eating and dieting is to BE PREPARED. Weigh yourself and prepare the food a few days in advance, eat before going to an event or at a friend's house so you don't fall into the temptation of making a bad choice, mentally prepare yourself for temptation, make the decision, don't throw yourself in edible garbage.
7. What did you do wrong before, when you thought you were doing everything right?
I ate too much, didn't measure or take responsibility with an app. You don't realize how much you're eating until you measure and weigh your food! HOLY COW!! No pun intended!
8. What would you say to people who aren't lucky enough to have a free trainer? Do you have hope?
If you're not lucky enough to have a coach, find a friend, spouse, or anyone else who will hold you accountable and listen to you complain about your mistakes or brag about your wins! You have absolute hope, first make small changes, then small changes become bigger. Move your body, eat smaller portions, drink a liter of water a day... Above all... you must believe in yourself and do it for YOU!!!
9. What's the biggest lie you've ever told yourself (about your weight or weight loss) that you believed hook, line, and sinker?
Oh, the biggest lies I told myself and anyone who would listen were... I must have a slow metabolism, I have big bones and the list goes on.
10. What is the truth about diet or fitness that you never knew?
How well do you feel emotionally when you are fit? It's really more of an emotional battle than a physical one!

Tasha shares what her diet was like before and what she learned by cutting back on foodmiss itapplication.
“First, I think using the app made me realize HOW MUCH FOOD I was eating. I had never measured food before and it was a revelation to say the least. Also, knowing how many calories each food has and understanding my choices helps me figure out what I really want to eat, like TONS of asparagus or sweet potatoes. The weeks I didn't use the app religiously were the weeks I didn't lose a lot of weight. Also, drinking a gallon of water a day not only kept me full, but I also noticed the numbers were lower during these weeks.
I still use LoseItapp and try to plan my days around specific percentages of protein, starch and fat. My goal is 33/33/33 (33% of calories from each substrate: protein, fat, and carbs) or very close. Losing it creates a pie chart so you can easily follow along. I measure everything and only drink water, at least a gallon a day. It has become a way of life and now it is much easier to make better decisions.”
- I don't eat any starchy vegetables after lunch, just a green leafy vegetable which is my night power.
- I measure ALL foods and liquids that enter my body
- Used to be a Big Dipper. Everything was going mustard or ranch. Now I don't use the sauce because they are empty calories and not worth it to me.
- I also try to get most of my calories in the first part of the day (lunch and before). I don't need a lot of fuel at night to go to bed.
- I see food as fuel, as a necessity.
- I prefer to keep my food bland, not because it has to be bland, but because I overeat when it's too good.
As you'll see below, she wasn't eating very unhealthy, she just didn't have any responsibility. He didn't pay attention to portions or calories. That's why many people think that losing weight is impossible. They eat "diet foods" all the time, but they don't lose weight due to other mistakes. In a way, Tasha got a lot of things right, but still got enough things wrong that she didn't get the results she wanted.
